I find this machine is fascinating so I thought I’d add a little to my last post. It is also considered one of the Classic Motorcycles in history.
FN (Fabrique Nationale d’Arms deGuerre) hired Paul Kelecom who had his own company producing highly regarded engines and was considered a top flight engineer at that time to enhance the FN Four. He designed the 4 cylinder engine on this bike that was considered the standard for engines at the time.
Innovations by FN include:
- Integrated Frame
- Magneto Ignition
- Lubrication System
- Brass tank with separated fuel and oil reservoirs with sight glasses
- 1909 Rear Brakes
- 1911 2 speed gearbox
- 1913 Kick Starter replace Pedal Starter
- Engine evolved from 362cc to 500cc to 748 cc
