This is a short bio on me and my history with motorcycles. Hope it doesn’t bore you guys. I just thought I’d get it out of the way.
I served in the US Navy’s submarine program (SSBN 626 – Daniel Webster) from 1965 to 1971.
While I was in the yards in Newport News , VA I bought a new 250cc 2 stroke Yamaha Street Scrambler. Paid around $500 for it and had it shipped to Oahu, HI when I got transferred there. Used it there until 1971 when I was discharged.Fast forward to 1973. Married, no kids. Went to a picnic @ my wife’s cousin’s camp and dumped a 650 Norton in a ditch on a backroad, flipped over the handlebars but was wearing a helmet. Decided to stay away from motorcycles for a while.
Again, fast forward to 2008 when I decided to get my M/C license in CT. I was building trophies for my buddy Dick Lupkas who was running a motorcycle show every other week behind the Valley Diner in Derby, CT. He had a 1991 883 Harley Sportster he bought for his wife. I believe she injured her ankle while attending the M/C course and changed her mind. The bike became available, so I bought it. Never took a picture of it though.
The 883 was fun, but it was a “leaker” and didn’t have enough power. It sounded like a beast though. So I went to Yankee Harley in Bristol, CT and traded it in for a 2006 1200 Sportster. In 2010, I decided I wanted to have a (as my buddy Dick Lupkas indicated) “real” bike, so I bought a 2012 Softail. I’m partial to Harley-Davidson.
I had plans to travel and wanted the amenities of a Touring bike, cruise control, storage, ABS and an infotainment system, so I bought my 2014 Ultra Glide Ultra Classic in 2014, and that is the one I currently own.
